The Department of Commerce and Management is the largest in the college in terms of student and staff strength. The aim of the department is to ensure that every student gets an equal opportunity to become an enterprising and productive citizen and thereby contribute to the great pool of human resource. The faculty members are well qualified, with a sizeable number of them with MBA degrees and others pursuing research in the ever-expanding field of commerce and management. Several faculty members have authored text books and reference books and are actively involved in syllabus restructuring to make sure that what is taught within the classrooms reflects, and is applicable to, the real world of commerce and management. The Department regularly conducts competitions, workshops and seminars to keep the students updated of the latest in the world of commerce. The department has a steep cut off percentage in terms of student intake which ensures that there is consistency in quality of teaching and student performance. The department is proud to announce that our college features among the top ten colleges of India for commerce and management and also features in the Top 100 Colleges of India.


Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have completed Two year Pre-University courses of Karnataka state or its equivalent with business studies and accountancy as two major subjects of study in both first and second year Pre University are eligible for admission into this course.


DURATION OF THE COURSE:

The course of study four (04) years of eight semesters. A candidate shall complete his/her degree within eight (08) academic years from the date of his/her admission to the first semester. However, students successfully complete two (02) years of the course and leave the course, will be awarded Diploma in Commerce. Student successfully completes three (03) years of the course will be awarded bachelor’s degree in commerce (B.Com). An option is provided to the students to continue the courseto the fourth year and those who successfully complete the fourth year will be awarded bachelor’s degree in commerce(Hon){(B.Com,(Hn)}.


MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION:

The medium of instruction shall be English. However, a candidate will be permitted to write the examination either in English or in Kannada.


ATTENDANCE:

  • For the purpose of calculating attendance, each semester shall be taken as a unit.
  • A student shall be considered to have satisfied the requirement of attendance for the semester, if he/she has attended not less than 75% in aggregate of the number of working periods in each of the subjects compulsory.
  • A student who fails to complete course in the manner stated above shall not be permitted to take the university examination.

SCHEME OF EXAMINATION:

  • There shall be a university examination at the end of the each semester. The maximum marks of the university examination in each paper shall be 70.
  • Of the 30 marks of Internal Assessment, 20 marks shall be based on two tests. Each test shall be of at least 01 hours duration to be held during the semester. The average of two tests shall be taken as the internal assessment marks. The remaining 10 marks of the internal assessment shall be based on Attendance and Skill Development.
  • The marks based on the attendance shall be awarded as given below:
    • 75% to 80% = 02 marks
    • 81% to 85% = 03 marks
    • 85% to 90% = 04 marks
    • 91 to 100% = 05 marks
  • Marks for skill development shall be awarded by the faculty concerned based on Skill Development exercises in a Record Book maintained by him/her and shall submit it to the faculty concerned at least 15 days before the last date of the semester.

APPEARANCE FOR THE EXAMINATION:

  • A candidate shall apply for all the parts in each examination when she/he appears for the examination only if he/she has 4 submitted the prescribed application along with the required fees to the university.
  • A candidate who has passed any language under part-1 shall be eligible to claim exemption from the study of the language at the corresponding level.
  • Further, candidates shall also be eligible to claim exemption from studying and passing in those commerce subjects which he/she has studied and passed at the corresponding level, subject to the conditions stipulated by the university.
  • A candidate who is permitted to seek admission to the degree course on transfer from any other University shall have to study and pass the subjects which are prescribed by the university. Such candidates shall not however, be eligible for the ward of ranks.

MINIMUM FOR A PASS:

Candidates who have obtained a minimum of 35% marks in University examination (i.e. 25 marks out of 70 marks of theory examination) and 40% in aggregate (i.e., total of university examination and internal assessment marks ) in each subject shall be eligible for a pass or exemption in that subject.


CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES:

  • The result of the first to sixth semester degree examination shall be declared and classified separately as flows
    • First Class: Those who obtain 60% and above of the total marks of part I , part II and III
    • Second Class: Those who obtain 50% and above but less than 60% of total marks of part I , part II and III
    • Pass class: Rest of the successful candidates who secure 40%and above but less than 50% of part I , part II and III
  • Class shall be declared on the basis of the aggregate marks obtained by the candidates in the degree course (excluding languages (part I) and non-core subjects(part III)) as a whole. However, only those candidates who have pass each semester university examination in the first attempt only shall be eligible for award of ranks. The first ten ranks only shall be notified.

MEDALS AND PRIZES:

No candidates passing an external examination shall be eligible for any scholarship fellowship, medal, prize or any other award.


TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • A candidate is allowed to carry all the previous un-cleared papers to the subsequent semester/semesters.
  • Such of those candidates who have failed/ remained absent for one or more papers henceforth called repeaters, shall appear for exam in such paper/s during the three immediately succeeding examinations. There shall be no repetition for internal assessment test.
  • The candidate shall take the examination as per the syllabus and the scheme of examination in force during the subsequent appearances.

PROVISION FOR IMPROVEMENT IN RESULTS:

The candidate shall be permitted to improve the results of the whole examination or of any semester or a subject within the prescribed time by the university after the publication of the results. The provision shall be exercised shall not be revoked. The application for improvement of results shall be submitted to the Registrar (Evolution) along with prescribed fee.

The aim of the department of Business Management is to create a stimulating and challenging atmosphere for students to hone their management skills in order to become dynamic leaders in the business world. The faculty members are not only well qualified but also have immense practical knowledge about the inner workings of a business enterprise. And this makes them proficient trainers rather than just teachers.

The Department is fully equipped with a business lab and regularly conducts field trips to equip students with the necessary skills of business management.


Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have completed Two year Pre-University courses of Karnataka state or its equivalent with business studies and accountancy as two major subjects of study in both first and second year Pre University are eligible for admission into this course.

PROJECT REPORT AND VIVA-VOCE:

  • The project report in the sixth semester carries 100 marks (70 marks for the project report and 30 marks for via-voce) which shall from part of sixth semester examination.
  • There shall be a single valuation of project report and this will be done simultaneously along with the Viva-Voce. Internal Assessment does not carry any marks.
  • A batch of (02) Project Report and Viva-Voce Examiners shall evaluate and conduct Viva-Voce 4 examinations for a minimum of thirty (30) Project Report and conduct Viva-Voce Examination for the same candidates.
  • The principal of the collage shall submit the project report of the students, to the university within three days after the completion of the Viva-Voce examination.
  • Candidate shall obtain a minimum of 40% marks (including Viva-Voce) in this subject (project report) failing which he/she shall revise and resubmit before the commencement of the next examination. However, no student shall be allowed to resubmit the project report after three consecutive chances.
  • The student who fails to submit the project report shall not be permitted to take the examination.
  • The board of examiners or their nominees shall conduct viva-voce examination for project report.
